Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Chief Executive Exits After Pivot Towards Fried Chicken.

A head of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who indicated the UK might have reached maximum pizza demand while expanding the company into poultry items has been replaced after conflicts with its governing body.

Leadership Shake-Up

Andrew Rennie is departing after just two years in leadership, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the company's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a long-term chief.

The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for more than two decades, had sought to shift the UK's leading pizza takeaway chain towards chicken offerings, stating earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the British pizza industry. He noted poultry was the quickest rising menu item in the globe.

Governance Disagreements

Sources suggest that there was friction between Rennie and the directors over his focus and direction, although Domino's official statement said he was stepping down “by mutual agreement”.

New Brand Launch

In the autumn, the chain launched its Chick 'N' Dip brand – which the former chief called a “bold new chapter” for the group – and is piloting it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.

While the company is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as intended, it views chicken products as complementary to its primary pizza operations.

Leadership Comment

The Domino's chair, the Domino's chair, stated: “Directors think that there are a number of opportunities to drive further growth and performance improvement in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on finding the right chief executive to oversee the careful implementation of that growth strategy.”

Industry Difficulties

In the latest update, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said transactions fell by one and a half percent in the third quarter. In the summer, it warned that the quick-service industry had “grown more challenging” as it attributed reduced spending in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15% drop in six-month income.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Another major chain announced the closing of dozens of outlets a month ago, after the company behind its UK venues entered insolvency.

Health Efforts

Adapting to consumer trends towards healthier eating, the company has rolled out light options, such as its thin-crust line of bakes below 400 kcals as well as vegan and wheat-free options. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a personal has under 1,000 calories.

Interim Leadership

The interim chief has been with the company since 2021, and previously worked for the gaming group a well-known operator. It is thought that she prefers not to take on the CEO position permanently.

She commented: “Our team has a multiple ongoing expansion and operational projects that we will be dedicated to executing at pace.”

She said these involved additional efforts on the organization's procurement system and menu innovation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also lacking a full-time chief financial officer until the spring, when a new appointee comes aboard from the drinks company a well-known firm. Until then, Snow serves as acting financial officer.
